SUMMARY:De-escalation in Teens with CPTSD
DESCRIPTION:Format: Virtual (via Zoom) \nSchedule: To Be Announced \nCE Credit: 2.0 Clinical Hours (Approved for ASWB) \nCost: Free for Wellness Collaborative Members | $59 for Non-Members \nOverview\nTeens with Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder often experience rapid shifts in emotional state\, heightened reactivity\, and patterns of shutdown or aggression that reflect underlying trauma adaptations—not willful misbehavior. Effective de-escalation requires a trauma-responsive understanding of the nervous system\, attachment injuries\, and the relational context in which escalation occurs. \nThis live\, two-hour training provides practical\, evidence-informed strategies for reducing intensity\, slowing escalation cycles\, and fostering safety with adolescents who carry complex trauma histories. Through clinical examples and structured guidance\, participants will explore how to identify early cues\, intervene before crises peak\, and support co-regulation in a developmentally attuned way. \nWho It’s For\nThis program is designed for licensed and pre-licensed mental health professionals—including social workers\, counselors\, psychologists\, school-based clinicians\, and family therapists—who support adolescents impacted by complex trauma. It is especially useful for clinicians working in outpatient therapy\, school counseling\, residential programs\, and community-based settings. \nLearning Objectives\nBy the end of this training\, participants will be able to: \n\n\nDescribe how CPTSD impacts adolescent emotional regulation and behavioral escalation. \n\n\nIdentify early warning signs of dysregulation and intervene before escalation intensifies. \n\n\nApply trauma-responsive de-escalation strategies that emphasize safety\, predictability\, and co-regulation. \n\n\nDifferentiate between trauma-driven behaviors and oppositional or conduct-related presentations. \n\n\nSupport teens in returning from hyperarousal or shutdown using developmentally appropriate techniques. \n\n\nIntegrate a relational\, attachment-informed framework to reduce escalation cycles over time. \n\n\nFormat & Accessibility\n\n\nHosted live via Zoom for easy access from any location. \n\n\nParticipants receive 2 hours of ASWB-approved continuing education credit. \n\n\nThe training is interactive\, practical\, and grounded in real-world clinical application rather than lecture alone. \n\n\nOpportunities for reflection\, case examples\, and Q&A are built into the format. \n\n\n  \nNot a member yet? \nJoin The Wellness Collaborative to gain free access to all CE events\, monthly clinical programs\, and additional professional resources.
