EMDR Basic Training (Part 1 & Part 2)

Trainer: Tanya Searles, LICSW, EMDRIA-Approved Consultant

Location: The Summit • 19 Roosevelt Highway, Colchester, VT 05446

CEUs: Available for Social Workers & Mental Health Counselors

Overview

This comprehensive EMDR Basic Training provides mental health professionals with the knowledge, skills, and supervised practice required to begin integrating Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy into clinical work. Grounded in the eight-phase EMDR treatment model and Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) theory, this training blends didactic instruction, live demonstration, supervised practicums, and case consultation to ensure clinicians are competent and confident in applying EMDR with clients.

Training Structure

EMDR Basic Training consists of two intensive three-day modules delivered in person at our Colchester training facility, plus required consultation hours between modules.

Part 1: March 13–15, 2026 (Fri–Sun)

Participants will develop a strong foundation in AIP theory, core principles of EMDR therapy, and the standard eight-phase protocol. Part 1 emphasizes readiness assessment, stabilization, resourcing, and guided practice sessions.

Part 2: May 8–10, 2026 (Fri–Sun)

Building on Part 1, this weekend focuses on advanced applications, working with complex trauma, blocked processing, dissociation-informed strategies, and modifications for diverse clinical populations. Further supervised practice enhances mastery of EMDR procedures.

Required Consultation (10 Hours)

Between Part 1 and Part 2, participants will complete five two-hour group consultation sessions via Zoom. These sessions (dates/time TBD) are led by an EMDRIA-Approved Consultant and are a required component of EMDRIA Basic Training.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the program, participants will be able to:

-Explain the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model and its relevance to trauma treatment.

-Implement all eight phases of EMDR therapy, including assessment, desensitization, installation, and closure.

-Conduct EMDR preparation and stabilization techniques to ensure client readiness.

-Apply EMDR procedures safely with a variety of clinical presentations.

-Identify and manage blocked processing, dissociation, and other complexities.

-Integrate EMDR into ongoing treatment planning and case conceptualization.
